Right?

“The cause of conflict is some fixed idea or one-sided idea.”

Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind, Shunryu Suzuki

Many times when I’m reading I’ll come across a passage that really resonates with me and I’ll tell myself that’s something I probably need to write about at a later date. This particular passage from Shunryu Suzuki gave me that exact feeling. So that was my plan, I’d mention it later, in maybe a day or two, or maybe in a month. About an hour later I found myself on Social Media just “flippin” through, and came across a video of a lady talking about how we don’t “come to the table” anymore because we’re all so sure we’re right. So, two knocks on the door means open it!

Isn’t this so simple and so very true? Many of us are so sure we are right that we seldom entertain the idea that we may be wrong. So, even though we have discussions with others regarding our opposing positions we generally have no intention of….not being right. This dynamic doesn’t normally provide for a positive outcome. Conflict occurs, people get mad, and things go south from there. Can we actually have a mindset that says “I’m not always right”, or “there might be another way”……Yes we can.

From the Tao Te Ching

Empty your mind of all thoughts.

Let your heart be at peace.

Watch the turmoil of beings, but contemplate their return.

Each separate being in the universe returns to the common source.

Returning to the source is serenity.

If you don’t realize the source, you stumble in confusion and sorrow.

When you realize where you come from, you naturally become tolerant,

disinterested, amused,

kindhearted as a grandmother,

dignified as a king.

Immersed in the wonder of the Tao you can deal with whatever life brings you,

and when death comes you are ready.

The Tao Te Ching, by Stephen Mitchell

Possibility?

If we use human characteristics to describe, and therefore define God, there will be a tendency to then think that God acts in that manner. This, to me is the furthest from the truth. A God that acts within the realm of human characteristics would not be God.

Great Read So Far!

Just got this wonderful book a few days ago! I’m just a couple of chapters in, but so far it has been nothing short of awesome! It has many of the concepts you’ll find in The Power of Now (Eckhart Tolle) but at a level that will be a bit more understandable too many. I would highly recommend it to those looking for that ability to quiet the mind, clearing the way for that inward journey to Peace. Enjoy!

That Word!

The use of the word “sin” has made me cringe for quite some time now.  The word has been weaponized by many, being used to bring people down, to remind them of their fallen state before God, and their inevitable one-way ticket if they don’t repent. Sin is not a list of behaviors found in the Bible that condemn you or changes the Great Creators feelings about you.

Sin is something in your life that separates you from fully experiencing the light of the Divine nature. This “something” could be anything. It might be a bad relationship, or an over emphasis on your social status. Whatever it may be, it keeps you from being fully connected to the peace and happiness that the Divine offers. The love that God offers is never withheld, you have just placed a blockade between you and it. You will most certainly know when your “blockade” has been removed!
